Our crossing over Webelos Arrow of Light take a symbolic journey by canoe, paddled by a Scouts BSA Scout, on a pond from the Closter Nature Center to the Scout Cabin
TROOP MEETINGS
We meet weekly on Mondays at 3:30 pm. Location is outside at the Scout cabin in Closter weather permitting. Other meetings are either at St. Mary's Church in Closter or via Zoom.
In addition to our weekly meetings, we aim to have 1 weekend outing or camping trip a month and several service projects throughout the year.
COURT OF HONOR
A Court of Honor is a ceremony that recognizes what a Scout has accomplished and achieved. Scouts are awarded with rank advancements and merit badges as well as any special achievements.
KLONDIKE DERBY
The Klondike Derby is an annual event usually held in January. It is a competition where Scout patrols run between several stations to showcase their Scout skills and leadership abilities in areas such as Fire Building and Cooking, First Aid, Shelter Building, Orienteering, Knots and Lashings and Team Building.
SUMMER CAMP
Troop 163 usually spends the 2nd or 3rd week of July at a Scouts BSA summer camp, where Scouts can earn merit badges while having fun and forming strong bonds with other Scouts. Summer camps that we have been to include Camp Turrell, a beautiful camp located at the foothills of the Catskills, as well as Camp Minsi in the hear of the Poconos.
HIGH ADVENTURE TREK
Troop 163 plans at least 1 high adventure trek over the summer. Possibilities include a canoe trek at Floodwood through the Adirondacks, sailing on a live aboard out of Sea Base in the Keys of Florida, rugged backcountry hiking at Philmont in New Mexico and more! Stay tuned for all the adventures to come!
